1st XI v Southwell II
Wilsons 1st XI 141-9 (18 points) beat Awsworth 2nd XI 114 all out (3 points) by 27 runs.
Wilsons 1st IX recorded their third straight win of the season on Saturday at home to Southwell IIs.
Wilsons elected to bat but quickly lost Imran Khan and the in-form James Norman. Stefan Boss took advantage of some wayward bowling before falling for 19. Sean Bush played a patient innings, taking full advantage of the plentiful extras provided by the Southwell attack. Sean, Fizzy Ahmed and Tom Wilson were then dismissed in quick succession, leaving Wilsons in a precarious position, well short of a hundred and with the top six all back in the pavilion. Steve Maxey then played a resolute innings, capably supported by Tim Caldwell and Tim Taylor, to ease Wilsons over the hundred mark and then past the first batting point. It was left to Tim Taylor and Phil Herd to secure the second batting point as Wilsons closed on 141-9 from 45 overs.
Tim Caldwell and Iftikhar Ahmed opened the attack for Wilsons and were ably supported by an eager fielding display. Tim and Iftikhar claimed a wicket apiece, and Iftikhar in particular was unfortunate not to pick up more as he beat the outside edge on a regular basis (finishing with 1 for 9 from 8overs). The introduction of Imran Khan provided the steady stream of wickets that Wilsons were looking for, as he picked up 5 for 16, leaving the stumps battered and regularly laying flat. Steve Maxey, with his leg spin taking one wicket, and Tim Taylor provided ample support. The innings was brought to a close by a sharp piece of fielding from Tim Caldwell that was an apt end to a magnificent bowling and fielding display.
Next week Wilsons take on Kirkby Portland in a top of the table clash.
