News re Evening League AGM - 16 January 2002
The members agreed to try to overcome the problem of teams dropping out after
the start of the season and thereby leaving other teams two fixtures short with
some radical new rules.
- There will be three divisions of either 9 or 10 teams playing each other
once only.
This will mean that if there is one or more teams not fulfilling fixtures
then only one game is affected.
- There will be 3-up & 3-down promotion and relegation to ensure that
teams will stay interested in the competition and almost every game will have
a result of significance.
- Because this will mean fewer fixtures there will be a Cup competition.
The Cup will in early rounds be played on blank fixture weeks.
First Round losers will enter a "Plate", so every club is guaranteed
at least two Cup games in addition to the league fixtures. Those clubs progressing
beyond Round 1 in either Cup will be in the Quarter Finals and
there will be greater interest amongst players by that point to enable them
to play twice in a week at the latter stages.
- To stop the nonsense of teams cancelling fixtures and not then rearranging
them; any team which defaults a fixture will automatically concede the game
and 6 points will be awarded to the other side. BUT if the game is rearranged
and played within 10 days of the scheduled date then the points will be adjusted
to reflect the correct result. If the game is not played within the specified
10 days then the penalty points awarded will stand.
