SNCL division D
Away – 14 June 2008
A brief summary of Saturday's
game from skipper Zak Briggs.
I won the toss and batted on what was a hard surface at probably
the smallest ground in the league, Abdul Haseeb (20) and Methab
(10) opened up at a very fast pace before both where out with
the score on 32. Nabil and Tom (17) then steadied the ship with
a good partnership to take the score to 117 off 22 overs before
Tom was slightly unfortunate to be out LBW. Steve and Nabil then
took the score to 134 before Steve (10) edged a wide one. Sean
then came in and with Nabil added 65 in 10 overs to keep the momentum
going before Nabil was out for an excellent 77. With the rare
advantage of wickets in hand we took the score to 233-8 with Sean
making an excellent 45 and Imran Shahid adding 2 big 6's in the
last over.
Zain and Doud opened the
bowling and kept the scoring rate to below 3, Doud picking up
the wicket to fall thanks to an excellent catch by Methab. Steve
(3-25) and Imran (3-36) kept the pressure on and took wickets
at vital times despite some ordinary ground fielding which left
Zain to pick up the last 2 wickets with 9 balls to spare to secure
maximum points - a good reward for a talented young bowler.
Overall a good batting
display which should breed confidence for the season with particular
credit to Nabil and Sean for good positive batting. The bowlers
performed consistently well and kept the opposition under pressure
on a small ground. Fielding wise the catches were taken well (Methab
taking 3) but the ground fielding was at times very poor and will
have to be improved on by the team as a whole if tighter games
than this are not to slip throught the net.
The day was rounded off
nicely with a few drinks and some excellent chilli at Gedling
and Sherwood's 80's do - all in all a pretty good Saturday.
