30 August
The 1st XI's season
finished on a disappointing note with another defeat at the
hands of promoted Wollaton II.
The home side batted
first and accumulated 209-5. In reply we were bowled out for
just 117 with only Iftikhar Ahmed with 49 troubling the scorers.
After this result
the 1sts drop to 7th in division D having been in the top
half of the table all season.
Attenborough II and
Wollaton II are the 2 promoted sides with Stanton-by-Dale
being relegated.
23 August
The 1st XI's slender
hopes of promotion were dashed by a home defeat to fellow
promotion chasers Wollaton II on Saturday.
Nabil Syed scored
33 in another poor batting performance as we were bowled out
for just 150.
Premier League Wollaton's
second team got home with 7 wickets and almost 10 overs to
spare.
In the last league
game of the season we face Wollaton again, this time away.
Leaders Attenborough
slipped up at home to 3rd placed Thurgarton. Both the top
2 have 2 games to play and just 2 points separate them.
16 August
Imran Khan hit a magnificent
115, supported by former skipper Stefan Boss with
55 not out and opener Sean Bush with 45 as Wilsons scored
254-2 in 40 overs against bottom of the table Stanton-by-Dale
at Regatta Way.
Spinners Mark Wallbank
(5-27) and Imran Shahid (4-29) then bowled out Stanton for
just 156 as Wilsons won by 98 runs and move up to 4th in Division
D with 2 games left (both against 2nd placed Wollaton II who
beat leaders Attenborough II at the weekend).
9 August
All games in the SNCL
were washed out.
2 August
Three defeats in a
row drop the 1sts down to sixth in division D after such a
promising start to the season. They failed to defend 179-9
at home to old rivals Risley. Abdul Hassed scored 62 but depite
3 wickets each from Imran Shahid and Zain Razeed, Risley just
got home with 2 wickets and 1 over to spare.
The 2nd teams of Attenborough
and Wollaton now look favourites for promotion as they both
won again - Wollaton over 2nd placed Thurgarton.
However, we have games
we should win in the next 2 weeks against Newark and Stanton-by-Dale
before the crunch games at home then away against Wollaton.
26 July
Having lost heavily
to top of the table Attenborough last week, this week it was
the turn of 2nd placed Thurgarton to inflict a heavy defeat
on the first team. Thurgarton batted first at home and racked
up 258-5 with Colin Cliff 104 not out. In reply Wilsons reached
just 159-9 to lose by a massive 99 runs.
Next week we entertain
old rivals Risley, who beat lowly Stanton. Willoughby remain
in relegation trouble after losing to Wollaton II who are
keeping up the pressure on the top 2.
19 July
Wilsons old boy James
Piper was the thorn in the side scoring 91 not out and taking
2 wickets as the 1st XI went down by 8 wickets at league leaders
Attenborough II. Batting first Wilsons scored 175 with major
contributions from Imran Khan (60), Steve Maxey (36) and skipper
Zak Briggs (33). Attenborough got home with 8 wickets and
5 overs to spare. (James holds the Wilsons highest individual
score with 200 not out against Rolls Royce back in 1996.)
The defeat drops the
1sts to 4th place with next week's opponents Thurgarton moving
up to 2nd after winning at lowly Stanton-by-Dale.
12 July
In a 40 over a side
game Wilsons batted first and struggled. Tom Moore scored
38 in 35 overs but it did give Zak Briggs (26) and TC (29)
chance to push the score along only for Imran Shahid to make
it look easy smashing 20 off the last 4 balls taking the score
to 157-8.
When Willoughby went
past 100 with 9 wickets in hand the game looked theirs for
the taking but tremendous bowling from Nadeem Ghani at the
death (6-37) and great fielding saw Willoughby fall 10 runs
short.
Read
Zak's report.
The win keeps the
1sts in 2nd place with next week's opponents Attenborough
II retaining top spot after winning at Long Whatton. Thurgarton
move above gameless Wollaton after winning at Risley.
5 July
Wilsons batted first
at home to Long Whatton and were bowled out for 145 with 37
each from Nabeel Syed and Tim Caldwell. In reply Long Whatton
were bowled out for 130 in 36 overs with Nadeem Ghani taking
3-32. The 18 point win moved the 1sts up to 2nd in the table
after Wollaton II lost at home to Willoughby and Thurgarton
lost at home to Newark.

Zak's report.
28 June
No game as Lady Bay
Boots withdrew from league. Elsewhere, Attenborough march
on with another 20 pt win, this time over Risley. Thurgarton
move up to 2nd with a 11 run over Wollaton who drop to 3rd.
Long Whatton lost at home to Newark and Stanton beat Willoughby
in the bottom of the table clash.
21 June
No game as Lady Bay
Boots withdrew from league. Due to the weather only 1 game
was played in Division D - Willoughby beating Newark in a
24 over game.
14 June
At last the batters
came to the party - Sean Bush hit 45 and Nabil Syed a magnificent
77 as Wilsons wracked up 233-9 off their 45 overs.
In reply Stanton managed
just 174 with Steve Maxey taking 3-25 and Imran Shahid 3-36
as we picked up the maximum 20 points.
It's tight at the
top of the table with just batting & bowling points separating
the top 6. Attenborough took over at the top despite not playing,
as Wollaton lost at Newark. Long Whatton beat Thurgarton whilst
Risley lost at Willoughby.
With Lady Bay Boots
having withdrawn from the league there are no games for the
1st team for the next 2 weeks.
7 June
We started pretty
well at home to Newark, TC bowling a very good spell followed
by Imran Shahid and Steve Maxey bowling good spells. We kept
the score down to 105 which was possibly 20 more than they
should have got on a very green seaming wicket.
We started OK with the bat with Nabil
and Methab putting on 29 for the first wicket but unfortunately
folded to 57-6. Steve and Mark took the score on to 82 before
both were out to leave us 83-8 with 5 overs remaining. Imran
Shahid (10) amd Gawain (12) made it look pretty easy though
by scoring the required runs in 4 overs including Gawain hitting
a huge 6 over mid-wicket which was probably the games turning
point.
31 May
Having just failed
to score enough runs at home last weekend to Thurgarton, the
1st XI batting let them down badly at old rivals Risley this
week.
Imran Shahid bowled
a magnicifent spell taking 6-15 restricting Risley to just
114-8 off 45 overs. But a batting collapse saw Wilsons bowled
out for one of their lowest ever league scores, managing just
52 to lose by 62 runs.
It was only a few
years ago that Wilsons scored 305-8, their highest ever league
total, against Risley.
It was a weekend of
low scores in the division as league leaders Attenborough
II were bowled out for 56 after restricting Newark to just
96.
In the bottom of the
table clash Willoughby scraped home against Stanton-by-Dale
by 2 wickets with 9 balls left.
24 May
Another defeat but
this time there were a few excuses. Imran Khan was injured
and half the 1st team were at Steve Maxey's wedding! On a
cold, blustery day at Regatta Way the understrength bowling
attack allowed Thurgarton to score 196-5.
Although we started
well with opener Mehtab Ahmed scoring 35, it was left to Imran
Shahid with 47 to try to hold the tail together but we could
only manage 179-9 off 45 overs and end up 17 runs short against
a side we should have beaten.
17 May
A bad day at the office
as we were bowled out for just 82 in 37 overs by Attenborough
who take over top spot in the division. The visitors won by
9 wickets with more than 25 overs to spare.
10 May
The 1sts hit top spot in division
D and made it 2 wins out of 2, comfortably beating 2nd placed
Long Whatton by 7 wickets.
Imran Khan took 4-27 as the hosts
were bowled out for 120. Nabeel Syed led the reply with an
unbeaten 78 as Wilsons picked up the maximum 20 points.
3 May
The 1st XI's season
under new skipper Zak Briggs got off to a great start with
a comfortable 60 run victory at home to Willoughby on the
Wolds.
Chairman Steve Maxey
hit an unbeaten 53 with Imran Khan scoring 36 and we posted
156-7 in 45 overs.
Three wickets each
from the returning Imran Shahid and Ifti Ahmed bowled out
Willoughby for just 96.
