Maiden century for Tom Moore
Tom Moore on his 22nd
birthday hit his first century when scoring 111 not out against
Walton-on-the-Wolds at Regatta Way on Sunday. He just failed by
1 run to equal his father Jeff's best Wilsons score of 112.
Popkess Cup
Wilsons first match proper
in this season's Popkess Cup was against Rolls Royce and with
only 10 players the possibility of progressing looked bleak.
Defeat looked all the
more likely as we collapsed to a typical 32-4. Managing to crawl
up to 90-9 the 11th player (Phil Herd) had now turned up after
an emergency phone call. He put on a majestic 36 with Zain, both
hitting magnificent boundaries and scampering for barely deserved
singles. This left us with a total of 126 which was at least defendable.
Then the fireworks began
- Ifti and Zain ripped through the top order leaving them 7-5
off 8 overs. Although they had a few partnerships along the way
the remaining wickets were taken with great catching and determined
fielding. A magnificent effort by all those playing.
We were drawn at home
to West Bridgfordians in the semi-final on Sunday 17 August. Unfortunately
our participation in the Popkess Cup ended at the semi-final stage
when we were beaten by local rivals West Bridgfordians at Regatta
Way.
West Bridgfordians scored
250-4 with Iftikhar Ahmed the pick of the Wilsons' bowlers taking
3-39.
In reply, Nabil Syed scored
60 and Abdul Hasib 57 but it was not enough as we were eventually
bowled out for 191.
